With a little bit of planning, it’s easy to provide children with nutritious and interesting school lunches without the waste. Food and the packaging it’s wrapped in makes up almost two-thirds of all the rubbish most schools send to landfill. As well as being wasteful and a burden to the environment, parents are paying for uneaten groceries and schools are paying to send those same groceries (and their packaging) to landfill. Replace plastic wrap with reusable cloth or beeswax wraps, steer clear of packaged snacks, avoid single-serve items such as yoghurt pottles (dispense into a container instead) and use reusable plastic containers whenever possible.
